“Approaches to the Problem Drinker” is designed to give a shortcut to the knowledge we call clinical experience. It is very practical and makes no apology for labouring the important points - such as when somebody might be better off in hospital.
It is clearly divided into sections, such as initial contact, detoxification, treatment options and covers issues such as self-help groups and controlled drinking. The points are all illustrated with candid and frank comments from patients. The programme concludes with a review of primary prevention.
Contributors include Dr Peter Anderson, Dr David Curson, Prof. Griffith Edwards, Dr Douglas Maxwell, Dr Peter Sudbury and Dr Brian Wells.
